Research Profile
Chrisandra Shufelt, MD, MS, FACP, NCMP is the associate director of the Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center and the Preventive and Rehabilitative Cardiac Center at the Smidt Heart Institute. She also directors the Women's Hormone and Menopause Program and is an expert in women’s hormones and heart disease. Dr. Shufelt provides personalized menopause treatment (hormone and non-hormone options), high-risk hormone counseling for women with or at risk for heart disease and cardiac risk assessments. She has several leadership roles in the American College of Physicians and the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) and is a NAMS certified menopause practitioner. Dr. Shufelt is currently a member of the NAMS Board of Trustees and the editorial board for the journal Menopause. She is also a member of the Endocrine Society and the American Heart Association. Dr. Shufelt is the research director of the non-invasive vascular research core laboratory within the Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center. Her research is NIH/NHLBI-funded and focuses on premenopausal women with amenorrhea due to low estrogen and the impact of hormones on the immune system, vascular health and heart disease. She is also a co-investigator on many studies at Cedars-Sinai, including those focusing on heart disease affecting small arteries in women. She has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the Journal of the American Medical Association and Menopause Journal and has presented at both national and international conferences.
