Research Profile
Dr. Illingworth received his undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona and went on to get his medical degree from the University of Tennessee. He completed a two-year research fellowship at the prestigious University of Pittsburgh Department of Orthopaedics. During that time, his research focused on three-dimensional modeling and kinematics of the knee after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. He completed his internship and Orthopaedic surgery residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine where he developed his passion for pediatric musculoskeletal trauma and spinal deformity under the mentorship of Dr. Keith Gabriel. He completed his advanced training in pediatrics and pediatric spinal deformity at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles under the mentorship of Drs. Tolo, Skaggs and Andras. He remained at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles as an assistant professor of Orthopaedic surgery were his practiced focused on complex pediatric spinal deformity. In addition, Dr. Illingworth served as the director of Orthopaedic trauma since 2018. Dr. Illingworth has presented and lectured at national and international meetings on Orthopaedic surgery, including pediatric spine surgery and pediatric musculoskeletal trauma. He has published over 30 peer reviewed articles in Orthopaedic surgery and has presented over 40 papers at national and international meetings. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics and is a member of various societies including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North American and the Scoliosis Research Society. Dr. Illingworth specializes in the non-operative and operative care of pediatric patients with complex spinal conditions. In addition to the care of pediatric spine patients, Dr. Illingworth will serve as the director of pediatric Orthopaedic trauma at Cedars Sinai and has a special interest in pediatric skeletal trauma in patients who have reached or are near skeletal maturity. When Dr. Illingworth is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife Whitney and their two children, Nixon (5) and Monroe (3). In addition to legos, drawing rainbow hearts and watching Cinderella he enjoys playing golf.
