Jane Catherine Figueiredo, PhD

Associate Professor, Medicine

Dr. Jane Figueiredo is the Director of Community and Population Health Research and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, with an adjunct appointment in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California. Dr. Figueiredo earned a B.A.Sc. in biomedical electrical engineering and a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in epidemiology with a concentration in breast cancer from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto; she then completed her post-doctoral fellowship in genetic epidemiology at the University of Southern California. Her current research program applies a multi-disciplinary framework to understand the intersections among the biological, environmental, and behavioral/lifestyle aspects of cancer control, survivorship and disparities, primarily in colorectal cancer. She has spent the last decade building new population-based and clinic-based studies in the U.S. and globally and collaborating with consortia efforts for large-scale analyses. Her team science approach is reflected in her active research projects, for which she serves as the PI or MPI of several NCI-funded studies in colorectal cancer: the Hispanic Colorectal Cancer Study, the Latino Colorectal Cancer Consortium, the Colon Cancer Family Registry and the ColoCare Study. With over 100 publications, these efforts are contributing to the broader scientific mission to understand the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer, the underlying causes of ethnic/racial disparities, and the development of tailored strategies to improve cancer prevention, response to treatment and outcomes.
