With his research, Peter Chen, MD, tries to unravel basic mechanisms of lung injury and repair. His main focus is on how lung epithelial cells interact with other cellular compartments and with the extracellular matrix to regulate inflammatory cell recruitment, lung fibrosis and cancer tumorigenesis. Chen's laboratory uses cell-based and animal models in its studies and conducts translational research using clinical samples.
